Effect of Time-Scale Assumptions on Process Models and Their Reconciliation

چکیده

Traditionally, models are generated building on macroscopic field theory substituting as much of the transformations as possible with the aim to generate models of sets of ordinary differential equations when ever possible. Today, computer programs are available solving Differential Algebraic Equations (DAEs) efficiently rendering most of the algebraic substitutions unnecessary. Our Modeller tool builds models on the fundamental principles, namely the conservation of extensive quantities, and adds the flows, reactions, state variable transformations and properties as algebraic equations. Unknown flows and unknown kinetics are substituted with additional information such as equilibria information. We show that the thereby introduced index problem can be resolved through local model reduction. The resulting model is always a DAE of index 1 and guaranteed structurally solvable.

The evaluation of Cox and Weibull proportional hazards models and their applications to identify factors influencing survival time in acute leukem

Introduction: The most important models used in analysis of survival data is proportional hazards models. Applying this model requires establishment of the relevance proportional hazards assumption, otherwise it world lead to incorrect inference. This study aims to evaluate Cox and Weibull models which are used in identification of effective factors on survival time in acute leukemia. Me...

Effect of process parameters on quality properties and drying time of hawthorn in a vibro-fluidized bed dryer

The drying kinetics of hawthorn in a pilot-scale experimental fluidized bed dryer with and without vibration was investigated. The effect of operating parameters, such as vibration intensity, drying air flow rate, and temperature, on the drying rate and shrinkage of hawthorn was studied. The hawthorn fruit was dried at various drying air temperatures ranging from 40-70oC and drying air volume f...

On-Line Nonlinear Dynamic Data Reconciliation Using Extended Kalman Filtering: Application to a Distillation Column and a CSTR

Extended Kalman Filtering (EKF) is a nonlinear dynamic data reconciliation (NDDR) method. One of its main advantages is its suitability for on-line applications. This paper presents an on-line NDDR method using EKF. It is implemented for two case studies, temperature measurements of a distillation column and concentration measurements of a CSTR. In each time step, random numbers with zero m...

Reconciliation of metabolites and biochemical reactions for metabolic networks

Genome-scale metabolic network reconstructions are now routinely used in the study of metabolic pathways, their evolution and design. The development of such reconstructions involves the integration of information on reactions and metabolites from the scientific literature as well as public databases and existing genome-scale metabolic models. The reconciliation of discrepancies between data fr...

Conceptual and numerical models of the evolution of pedogenic carbonates in soils of arid and semi-arid regions: A review

Introduction Calcareous soils are widely distributed in arid and semi-arid regions of the world and the presence of carbonates in the soils affects both physicochemical properties and the pedogenic evolution. In addition, soil carbon plays a critical role in the global carbon cycle, and pedogenic carbonates are an important sink for atmospheric carbon. Pedogenic carbonates are also the proxy o...
